This morning, we walked to an orphanage for 44 children in Pokhara. We donated our unused trekking gear: socks, hats, and gloves. We also donated our sleeping bags, pillows, and towels, as we won’t be needing them for the rest of the trip. It will be nice to have more room and less weight in the backpacks.

From Aidan: We went to a children’s orphanage. We donated three bags of stuff. They were nice and showed us around. To me, the place was smelly.

In the afternoon, I focused on getting Aidan better. We went to the hotel spa for massages. I had a Nepalese massage. The masseur jumped right up on the table, giving a lot of attention to the buttocks. Interesting. Not bad, just different. Aidan had a detoxing, Ayurvedic massage. Then the boys had their afternoon swim.

At the hotel spa, each 1-hour massage cost about 3000 Nepalese rupees. That’s about $30. Granted, if we’d gone to a massage salon outside the hotel, it probably would have been half the price, but Aidan wasn’t comfortable with that. Compare that price to Dubai.  I had a half-hour massage to relieve a pinched nerve. Price: $78.

Like in India, yoga is very popular in Nepal.  The boys and I had a private class on the hotel roof with a yoga instructor.  I don’t think he found the breathing exercises as funny as the boys did.  Nathan had trouble sitting with his legs crossed.  The instructor told him that he needed to increase his flexibility.  He said that I was very flexible.  I’m pretty sure that he meant flexible for my age!

Aidan still isn’t eating very much. He gets a little freaked out eating at restaurants outside of the hotel. The people of Nepal eat dal bhat at least twice a day. It’s a platter dish with rice, lentil soup, potatoes/cauliflower, and vegetables. It’s pretty good and very filling.
