We are the Bailey-Shah family:  Neerav, Shellie, Nathan and Aidan.  And we are embarking on a great adventure!

Aidan with boogie boardAidan is 10 years old.  He’s bright student and an avid soccer and lacrosse player. If given the choice, he’d wear a t-shirt and shorts in the dead of winter.  He knows all the words to nearly every pop song on the radio but can’t seem to remember to make his bed in the morning.  He has a fearless, leap-before-you-look approach to life.  On our trip, he’ll be in charge of recording fascinating facts.

NathanNathan is 13 years old.  He’s an accomplished student and avid soccer player.  But as a teenager, he’s careful not to show too much enthusiasm… for anything.  He does smile more since getting off his braces earlier this year.  Nathan is analytical, calculating, and highly organized.  His job on our trip will be that of accountant.

Neerav golfingNeerav is a father, husband, and hardworking general manager of a telecommunications company.  But he’d give up his job in a heartbeat to play on the PGA tour!  I’ve promised him 18-holes in Moorea.  This trip is only possible because of Neerav’s earned frequent flyer miles.  Thank you, honey, for enduring all those long flights and bad airplane food for our benefit!

ShellieI’m the mom, Shellie.  I’m also an Emmy award-winning consumer investigative reporter in my spare time.  I’m the chief researcher, planner, reservation maker, and packer.  I’m the one that can’t sleep at night, thinking that I may have forgotten some important detail.  My job on the trip is to learn to go with the flow.

There’s one more important thing to know about us.  Five years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  It was a long road, but I’m healthy and cancer-free today. We’ve held tight to the lessons that we learned through that experience.  There’s nothing more important than family and our faith in God.  We have no guarantee of a tomorrow, so we have even more reason to live today.

Hence, our trip…

Please pray for our safe journey!

  1. How wonderful for your kids to have these memories!!!
My parents took us on a trip around the USA for an entire summer between my junior & senior years of hs in 1987. I have visited every state in our great country except for alaska & Hawaii. (I hope to change that someday). We still talk about that trip and look at the photo album 26 years later whenever we are together. I encourage anyone to put together a trip such as this for their family. If foreign travel isn’t in your budget there is plenty of adventure here. Plan it and do it!! My parents did it and they were far from wealthy. But it was years. I’m in the making. I’m so glad my parents dis this. Good for you!!

  2. I found your blog through a Google Alert for snorkeling… I must say that it looks like you are having an adventure. It’s very exciting I am sure and something that your family will always remember. Thanks for sharing your experience with the world!!!
